How to Make a Squishee at Home
Share
The Kwik-E-Mart's signature frozen beverage has powered Springfield's youth through countless adventures. Bart and Milhouse famously ordered the "all-syrup Super Squishee" and experienced what can only be described as a sugar-induced vision quest.

You don't need Apu's machine to make one at home. A blender works fine. Your dentist won't approve, but your inner child will.
Quick Facts
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Blend Time: 2 minutes
- Difficulty: Easy
- Servings: 2 large Squishees
- Sugar Content: Concerning
Ingredients
Classic Cherry Squishee: - 3 cups ice - 1 cup cherry soda (or any red soda) - 1/4 cup cherry syrup or grenadine - 2 tbsp sugar - Red food coloring (optional, for intensity)
Blue Raspberry Squishee: - 3 cups ice - 1 cup blue raspberry soda or lemonade - 1/4 cup blue raspberry syrup - 2 tbsp sugar - Blue food coloring (optional)
The All-Syrup Super Squishee: - 3 cups ice - 1/2 cup mixed fruit syrups (cherry, blue raspberry, grape) - 1/2 cup sugar - 1/4 cup water - Your personal liability waiver

Method
Standard Squishee:
Add ice to blender first. Pour soda and syrup over the ice. Add sugar.
Blend on high until the mixture reaches slushie consistency. You want it thick enough to hold shape but liquid enough to drink through a straw.
If too thick, add a splash more soda. If too thin, add more ice and blend again.
Pour into a large plastic cup. Add a dome lid if you're committed to the aesthetic. Insert straw. Consume before it melts.
The All-Syrup Super Squishee:
This is for special occasions. Bart and Milhouse used it to achieve enlightenment. Or at least a very intense sugar high.
Skip the soda entirely. Blend ice with pure syrup and sugar. The ratio should be approximately one part ice to one part regret.
The result is aggressively sweet. It should coat your teeth immediately and make your vision slightly sharper.
Consume quickly. Have water nearby. Consider the choices that led you here.
Flavor Variations
The Apu Special: Layer two colors without mixing. Pour red on bottom, blue on top. They'll eventually merge but look impressive initially.
Tropical Squishee: Mango syrup, pineapple juice, and yellow food coloring. Summer vibes.
The Adult Squishee: Add vodka. Apu would never sell this, but he'd understand.
The Lisa: Use fresh fruit instead of syrup. Blend strawberries or blueberries with ice and a little honey. Still a Squishee, technically healthier.
Tips
Freeze your cup beforehand. A cold cup keeps the Squishee frozen longer.
Crushed ice blends better than cubes. If using cubes, blend in batches.
The straw matters. Thin straws clog. Use the widest straw you can find.
Real Squishee machines inject air while freezing, creating that fluffy texture. A blender can't replicate this exactly. Blend in short bursts to incorporate some air.
The Kwik-E-Mart Experience
The Squishee is the backbone of the Kwik-E-Mart's appeal to Springfield's younger generation. Apu keeps the machine running constantly. The cups are always slightly too small for the price.
In "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood" (Season 5, Episode 8), Bart and Milhouse discover what happens when you remove all restraint from frozen beverage consumption. The all-syrup version sends them on a journey through Springfield that ends with them joining the Junior Campers.
The lesson: Squishees should be enjoyed responsibly. But if you're going to be irresponsible, commit fully.
Making It Look Right
Authentic Squishee presentation matters:
- Clear plastic cups only
- Dome lids with straw holes
- Overfill slightly so the dome barely closes
- The color should be unnaturally vibrant
- Condensation on the outside
You can buy Squishee-style cups online. They're marketed as slushie cups or frozen drink cups. The dome lid is essential for the complete experience.
